Solution Thanks to Maga (on the XWall.us forum) we have detailed and accurate instructions how to install the ClamAV command line scanner. It's the fastest command line scanner I know. The PDF file (look in the XWall download section) shows you where to get it from, what to download, how to install Clam and the updater, how to set the scheduler, install the scripts for the Xwall AV stats and so on. ClamAV does an excellent job on all my installation and it catches phishing emails on to of the common viruses.
